‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shell’: What the Shell Did I Just Watch?

When Tyler Perry is the best part of your movie, the alarm started going off a long time ago. “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows” (the longest, most unnecessary title of all-time) is the sequel to the 2014 films about everyone’s favorite pubescent modified warrior reptiles. This time around the gang must stop… Continue reading ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shell’: What the Shell Did I Just Watch?

‘The Do-Over’ Is Passable but Still Bad Sandler

[sighhhhhhhhh] “The Do-Over” is the second of Adam Sandler’s four-movie deal with Netflix and stars him and David Spade as two men who fake their own deaths in order to start a new life, but soon realize the identities they’ve chosen are of two wanted men. Steven Brill (director of Sandler in “Little Nicky” and… Continue reading ‘The Do-Over’ Is Passable but Still Bad Sandler

‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ a Boring Waste of Talent

The year of the disappointing superhero film continues. “X-Men: Apocalypse” is the ninth installment of the X-Men series and the sequel to 2014’s “Days of Future Past,” a movie that I loved and is universally accepted as one of, if not the, best of the franchise. James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence all reprise… Continue reading ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ a Boring Waste of Talent

Is that a unicorn? No? Just a comedy sequel that is as good as the original? Huh. Well, they’re both magical and rare, so… [cough] I apologize for that lame intro. Onto the review. “Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising” is the sequel to the 2014 hit “Neighbors,” which is Seth Rogen’s highest grossing film to date.… Continue reading ‘Neighbors 2’ a Rare Comedy Sequel That Works

‘Civil War’ Fun and Colorful but Overstuffed Superhero Romp

I think I finally got hit with that Marvel/superhero fatigue everyone was talking about after “Age of Ultron.” “Captain America: Civil War” is the 13th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the final installment of the Captain America trilogy. Chris Evans returns as the titular stars-and-stripes hero and Robert Downey Jr. reprises his role… Continue reading ‘Civil War’ Fun and Colorful but Overstuffed Superhero Romp

What Is Killing Movie Theaters and How to Maybe Save Them

David PalmerLeave a comment

There are many problems facing movie theaters nowadays. Sean Parker has proposed the “Screening Room,” a $150 box that would allow people to see new-run movies in their home for $50 each. Some big names (J.J. Abrams, Steven Spielberg) have gotten behind it, while others (James Cameron, Christopher Nolan) have condemned it. And in case you… Continue reading What Is Killing Movie Theaters and How to Maybe Save Them
